I BELIEVE… it’s time to start a revolution.
I WANT TO LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE… we stop battling main stream media about their portrayal of women and raise daughters with high self esteem and sons who appreciate them. I want to take the power away from main stream media and let the world know that we, as women, can make our own definition of beauty and believe it. I want to live in a world where all women know they are beautiful, be they plus size or petite, tall or short, blonde or brunette, busty or not; that celebrating yourself is empowering, and beautiful.
I want to live in a world where different body types, looks, ideas and talents are admired and respected.
I want to live in a world where women aren’t shamed for their sexual interests, pasts or appetites. Where sexual assault results in people being pissed off, not with people asking what she was wearing or how she was acting. Where women can be the sexual aggressor and not be called a whore; or be sexually conservative and not be considered a prude.
I want to live in a world where the myth of the good girl is dismissed as easily as reports of big foot.
HERE’S WHAT I KNOW FOR SURE… our children don’t do what we say. They do what we do. We need to act like we want them to act. Don’t be a martyr and take care of everyones needs before your own and expect your daughters not to follow in your foot steps. Prioritize self care. Don’t put your body down, and expect your child to love their own. Celebrate your body like you want them to celebrate theirs. CREATE ADVENTURE. For yourself. For your children.
Stop judging other women. Don’t make catty remarks about those skinnier then you. Don’t fat shame those larger. Don’t put those down who don’t mom like you or dress like you or talk like you. We are all sisters. We need to support each other; to complete each other, not compete with each other.
We aren’t fighting over one seat at the table, we are fighting for ALL the seats at the table.
To make these changes, we need to challenge deep rooted ideas. We need to become a celebrated sisterhood. We need to be less critical of ourselves, and each other. We need to stop wasting energy on judgements, and put it towards understanding each other.
I BELIEVE… it’s time to start a revolution. Who’s with me?
